1.0 Introduction: The Substance of Ethics

A foundational principle in Christian Ethics is the revelation of God’s will in Jesus Christ. Jesus may be our Savior, but he is also our Lord and demands our service and obedience. Biblical ethics, therefore, is a “theonomous” (God-determined), i.e. a “christonomous” (Christ-determined), ethic rather than an “autonomous” (self-determined) philosophical school of ethics.
