Lesson 1, Topic 1
In Progress

1.1.1 Character and its Meaning – Definition

Definition in Collins Dictionary:

Character:  the particular combination of things about a person, especially things you cannot see, that make that person different from others.

Personal identity: the concept you develop about yourself that evolves over the course of your life. This may include aspects of your life that you have no control over, such as where you grew up, the colour of your skin, your parents and siblings, etc. and the areas you do have control over … the choices you make in life, such as how you spend your time and with whom, and what you believe. The personal uniqueness of an individual is created through a specific combination of personality characteristics, abilities, interests, physical attributes and biography.   No two people will ever be created the same.

Our character is much more than our reputation.  Reputation is what others see and think about us.  Our character is who we are, even when no one is watching.  Our character is the qualities that make us who we are.

Ephesians 2:10 … For we are God’s masterpiece.  He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

2 Corinthians 5:17    Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!

Romans 12:2    Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Question:

What is your understanding of these scriptures as they relate to you and to your character.

How do you connect with the concept that you are a masterpiece and in what areas of your life might you be resisting this truth?
